122631f99e Apache 1.3 does not support the reluctant (non-greedy) expression modifier. Remove the modifier when outputting mod_rewrite rules.

483dfd5388 Write rewrite rules to .htacces if .htaccess is writable. Create .htaccess if it does not exist and the directory is writable. Props to Owen Winkler.
