67ec3d7926 Remove CONFIG_CAN_PASS_STRUCT
This commit resolves issue #620:

Remove CONFIG_CAN_PASS_STRUCTS #620

The configuration option CONFIG_CAN_PASS_STRUCTS was added many years ago to support an old version of the SDCC compiler. That compiler is currently used only with the Z80 and Z180 targets. The limitation of that old compiler was that it could not pass structures or unions as either inputs or outputs. For example:

    #ifdef CONFIG_CAN_PASS_STRUCTS
    struct mallinfo mallinfo(void);
    #else
    int      mallinfo(FAR struct mallinfo *info);
    #endif

And even leads to violation of a few POSIX interfaces like:

    #ifdef CONFIG_CAN_PASS_STRUCTS
    int  sigqueue(int pid, int signo, union sigval value);
    #else
    int  sigqueue(int pid, int signo, FAR void *sival_ptr);
    #endif

This breaks the 1st INVIOLABLES rule:

Strict POSIX compliance
-----------------------

  o Strict conformance to the portable standard OS interface as defined at
    OpenGroup.org.
  o A deeply embedded system requires some special support. Special
    support must be minimized.
  o The portable interface must never be compromised only for the sake of
    expediency.
  o Expediency or even improved performance are not justifications for
   violation of the strict POSIX interface

Also, it appears that the current SDCC compilers have resolve this issue and so, perhaps, this is no longer a problem: z88dk/z88dk#1132

NOTE: This commit cannot pass the PR checks because it depends on matching changes to the apps/ directory.

cf5d17f795 tools/nxstyle: Added logic to parse section headers (#90)
* tools/nxstyle: Added logic to parse section headers (like Included files, Pre-processor Definitions, etc.) and to assure that the section headers are correct for the file type. Also (1) verify that #include appears only in the 'Included Files' section and that (2) #define only occurs in the Pre-processor definition section.

    Right now, there are several places where that rule is not followed. I think most of these are acceptable so these failures only generate warnings, not errors. The warning means that we need to go look at the offending #define or #include and decide if it is a acceptable usage or not.

641a98a434 arch/: The saved return register state is available on the user stack. Thic commit reorders some logic so that certain, critical registers are preserved in the TCB. This does not make the logic 100% secure, but does prevent some obvious things. sched/signal/sig_delivery: Add a flag to the TCB to indicate that we are in a signal handler. Use this flag to assure that a there a never attempts to nest signal handling operations on a thread. This was guaranteed before but when locking of pre-emption during signal delivering was eliminated in a previous commit, there was a remote possibility of an attempt to do nested signal handling. This flag assures that there is only one signal handled at a time. 2019-02-03 15:29:47 -06:00

9d3148406c Signals were not a good choice of IPC to implement the poll function for several reasons: In order to handle the asynchrnous poll-related event, a substantial amount of state information is needed. Signals are only capable of passing minimal amounts of data. There are also complexities with performing kernel space signal handlers in kernel space code that is better to avoid. So, instead of signals, the equivalent logic was converted to run via a callback that executes on the high-priority work queue.
Squashed commit of the following:

    Fix up some final compile isses.

    net/netdev: Convert the network down notification logic to use the new wqueue-based notification factility.

    net/udp: Convert the UDP readahead notification logic to use the new wqueue-based notification factility.

    net/tcp: Convert the TCP readahead notification logic to use the new wqueue-based notification factility.

    mm/iob: Convert the IOB notification logic to use the new wqueue-based notification factility.

    sched/wqueue: Signals are not good IPCs to support the target poll functionality for several reasons including the amount of data that can be passed with a signal and in the fact that in protected and kernel modes, user threads executing signal handlers in protected, kernel memory is problematic. Instead, convert the same logic to perform the notifications via function callback on the high priority work queue.

a7265d71c6 This commit adds support for default signal actions for SIGSTOP, SIGSTP, and SIGCONT.
Squashed commit of the following:

    Add procfs support to show stopped tasks. Add nxsig_action() to solve a chicken and egg problem: We needed to use sigaction to set default actions, but sigaction() would refuse to set actions if the default actions could not be caught or ignored.

    sched/signal: Add configuration option to selectively enabled/disable default signal actions for SIGSTOP/SIGSTP/SIGCONT and SIGKILL/SIGINT. Fix some compilation issues.

    sched/sched: Okay.. I figured out a way to handle state changes that may occur while they were stopped. If a task/thread was already blocked when SIGSTOP/SIGSTP was received, it will restart in the running state. I will appear that to the task/thread that the blocked condition was interrupt by a signal and returns the EINTR error.

Fix signal handing for smp

* sched/signal: Remove SMP related logic in sig_dispatch.c

    This change prevents from a deadlock in up_schedulesigaction.c
    where inter-CPU signal handling is actually implemented.

    Signed-off-by: Masayuki Ishikawa <Masayuki.Ishikawa@jp.sony.com>

* arch/arm/src/armv7-m: Fix signal handling for SMP

    In previous implementation, signal handling for SMP was incorrect.
    Thus, for example, if an inter-CPU signal happened an incorret tcb
    was signaled and caused ASSERT().

    This change fixes the issues and works for both inter-CPU signal
    handling and signal handling on the same CPU.

    sched/signal: Add internal OS interface nxsig_procmask(). This internal interface is equivalent to the standard sigprocmask() used by applications except that it does not modify the errno value. Also fixes a problem in that the original sigprocmask() was not setting the errno.

936df1bcb5 Adds new OS internal functions nxsig_sleep() and nxsig_usleep. These differ from the standard sleep() and usleep() in that (1) they don't cause cancellation points, and (2) don't set the errno variable (if applicable). All calls to sleep() and usleep() changed to calls to nxsig_sleep() and nxsig_usleep().

fdd0dcc0b6 This commit adds internal versions of the signal interfaces:
sigtimedwait() -> nxsig_timedwait()
  sigwaitinfo()  -> nxsig_waitinfo()
  nanosleep()    -> nxsig_nanosleep()

The internal OS versions differ from the standard application interfaces in that:

  - They do not create cancellation points, and
  - they do not modify the application's errno variable

Squashed commit of the following:

    sched/signal: Replace all usage of sigwaitinfo(), sigtimedwait(), and nanosleep() with the OS internal counterparts nxsig_waitinfo(), nxsig_timedwait(), and nxsig_nanosleep().

    sched/signal: Add nxsig_nanosleep(). This is an internal OS version of nanosleep(). It differs in that it does not set the errno varaiable and does not create a cancellation point.

    sched/signal: Add nxsig_timedwait() and nxsig_waitinfo(). These are internal OS versions of sigtimedwait() and sigwaitinfo(). They differ in that they do not set the errno varaiable and they do not create cancellation points.

    sched/signal: Rename all private, internal signl functions to use the nxsig_ prefix.

    sched/signal: Rename sig_removependingsignal, sig_unmaskpendingsignal, and sig_mqnotempty to nxsig_remove_pendingsignal, nxsig_unmask_pendingsignal, and nxsig_mqnotempty to make it clear that these are OS internal interfaces.

    sched/signal: Rename sig_findaction and sig_lowest to nxsig_find_action and nxsig_lowest to make it clear that these are OS internal interfaces.

    sched/signal: Rename sig_allocatepingsigaction and sig_deliver to nxsig_alloc_pendingsigaction and nxsig_deliver to make it clear that these are OS internal interfaces.

    sched/signal: Rename sig_cleanup, sig_release, sig_releasependingaction, and sig_releasependingsignal to nxsig_cleanup, nxsig_release, nxsig_release_pendingaction, and nxsig_release_pendingsignal to make it clear that these are OS internal interfaces.

    sched/signal: Rename sig_tcbdispatch and sig_dispatch to nxsig_tcbdispatch and nxsig_dispatch to make it clear that these are OS internal interfaces.

    sched/signal: Rename sig_releaseaction and sig_pendingset to nxsig_release_action and nxsig_pendingset to make it clear that these are OS internal interfaces.
